The X-ray foramen is performed to see the opening of the optic canal or optic foramen. This is located at the base of the skull and carries the optic nerve and the ophthalmic artery into the orbital cavity. The indications for this test are fracture of bones surrounding the optic foramen, to look for any changes in the shape or size of the optic canal, to detect the presence of any optic neuropathies or any suspected infections or abnormal growth.

- No preparations are needed.
- Please carry your medical documents.
- You may be asked to remove some clothing and change it into a gown for the exam. Remove jewellery, metallic objects, or clothing that might interfere with the x-ray images.
- Women should inform about any chance of pregnancy as generally, an X-ray is not performed on pregnant patients.
- Please carry identification proof such as an Aadhar card, pan card etc.

- X-ray imaging is a simple procedure to perform.
- The technologist positions you as per the protocol and carefully aims the x-ray beam at the area of interest.
- You are requested to remain still and may need to hold your breath when asked to do so.
- When the examination is complete, the technologist may ask you to wait until the images are verified.
- The total duration of the imaging procedure may take upto 15 minutes.
