18F-FDG whole body PET-CT is commonly referred to as PET-CT scan or PET scan. The PET-CT is the imaging modality that can perform multiple tests, including 18F-FDG Brain PET-CT, 68Ga-PSMA PET-CT, 68Ga-DOTA PET-CT, 18F-DOPA PET-CT, 18F-PSMA PET-CT, 18F-Choline PET-CT, 68Ga-DOTA-Exendine along with many others. The majority of these tests have different rates and different preparation. The choice of the test depends upon the patient's clinical conditions and is decided by the referring clinician. 18F-FDG Whole body PET-CT is performed to look for an unknown primary when metastatic disease is discovered somewhere in the body, staging the patient with a known primary, and monitoring the effect of therapy post chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, or surgery any other suitable method of treatment. It is also used to detect the recurrence of the disease. Many doctors prefer this test even before the biopsy as it can guide for a suitable site for biopsy, possible origin of disease, and stage.

- The patient is asked to pass urine before scanning. Scanning may take 15-30 min, depending upon the nature of the disease.
- Recorded images are verified and need any delayed images, and the patient is advised accordingly.
- Once these sequences are over, the patient is free to have a meal and go home. The entire procedure takes approximately 2–4 hours, depending upon several variables. In the case of delayed images, this time may increase.
